While nearly every aspect of recruitment should revolve around how we are building relationships, if we are not marketing properly, then nobody will know who we are, or the great things we are doing as an organization. As recruitment chairmen and leaders in the organization, having strong communication with the brother running our social media and public relations is vital!

Social Media

Social media cannot be an afterthought in operations but is vital for a public image and to promote what your chapter is doing. Work with your social media chair on some of the tips below:

  • Your page needs to be easy to find with a simple and straight forward name with your university and fiji/phigam.
  • Be sure it is up to date! Nothing makes someone click off of your page faster than seeing you haven’t posted in over a year.
  • Be sure to post your overall calendar, and event reminders in a post or in a story.
  • Event reminders should be at least 24 hours before the event to maximize who will see it.
  • Don’t forget the details! Who is invited? Where is it? What is going on? What time does it start?

Flyers

Let’s be honest for a second, if all we are doing for promotions is flyers, we shouldn’t bother. Think about the last time you stopped at a bulletin board, saw a cool flyer or poster, and remembered to go to that event. Odds are, it has been a while if ever. However, they can be good addition to other means of publicity. Flyers can be good to have at an information table, or to give out while talking to someone at the dining hall or library. Be sure to include events within 24-48 hours, with details and contact information.

Ask to speak at another organization. Whether a sorority, student government, or a leadership organization, they all have meetings at some point. Contact the president and ask if you can talk for two or three minutes at the start of a meeting to talk about your organization. Talk about what your values are and the type of men your hoping to recruit. See if they will help submit names or even give you contact information!

Recruitment isn’t easy, and there are always things that can be improved throughout the process. However, marketing for names to add to your list is the first step that is needed for success.
