Executive Leadership: Which of the Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership Are You?

Description

Participants explored the Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership with facilitator Kirk Walden (Texas Arlington 1972) and learned how to guide a group with different leadership styles. Participants also took the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) to learn the leadership style that is most natural to them. And they identified ways the Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership can enhance member engagement, chapter meetings and programming.

This session focused on the LPI. Chapters can use the link to learn more about inventory. If chapters are interested in using the LPI as an Executive Leadership Menu Experience, they can email the Director of Education to get the facilitation materials. Chapters can also find information for purchasing assessments here (including cost and different options for assessments). The LPI is also used as a tool at The Leadership Institute over the summer.

In this session, Ross Szabo helped prepare participants how to lead the Behind Happy Faces Mental Health Curriculum. Participants discussed the main learning objectives of the curriculum, and they received tips how to personalize facilitating the curriculum, continue the conversation about mental health after the lessons, and how leaders can continue to take care of their own mental health needs.

Behind Happy Faces has been a strong way to educate about mental health in Phi Gamma Delta. It’s important to continue to learn best practices for how to further mental health education in chapters and understand the public health approach that this curriculum uses.
