Graduate Volunteers & Advisors

Volunteer Opportunities

Why volunteer? Because volunteers make the difference. As an advisor to an undergraduate chapter, you will put yourself in a position to have a tremendous impact on the lives of some good young men.

Imagine your chapter, or any Phi Gamma Delta chapter, without a strong network of graduate support. Some chapters can get by, but many cannot without the continuity, leadership and guidance provided by our graduate advisors and house corporation members.

 Roles Within the HC

Board of Directors

The Fraternity recommends a board of directors be elected to govern the HC. Many HCs elect 7-11 directors on staggered terms.

Executive Committee

Most HCs elect the following Executive Committee members:

He shall preside at all board of directors meetings and shall be ex‐officio a member of every standing or temporary committee of the HC. He shall execute all contracts and other instruments of writing authorized by the board of directors. And, subject always to the direction of the directors, the president shall exercise such other authority and perform such other duties as the directors may from time to time prescribe.
  • Vice President: In the event of the death, absence, incapacity, inability or refusal to act of the president, the vice president shall possess all the powers and perform all the duties of the president and shall do and perform such other duties as may be from time to time assigned to him by the board of directors.
  • Secretary: The secretary shall attend all meetings of the directors and shall record, or cause to be recorded, all votes taken and the minutes of all such proceedings. He shall give, or cause to be given, notice of meetings of the directors and shall perform such other duties as are incident to the office of secretary and as may be assigned by the HC directors or president.
  • Treasurer: The treasurer shall have supervision and custody of all moneys and securities of the corporation. He shall cause to be kept full and accurate accounts of the receipts and disbursements of the HC in books belonging to it; shall cause all moneys and other valuable effects to be deposited in the name and to the credit of the HC in such accounts and in such depositories as may be designated by the board of directors; shall disburse and supervise the disbursement of funds of the corporation in accordance with authority of the board of directors, taking proper vouchers therefore; shall render to the president and board of directors at regular meetings of the board of directors or whenever the president or the board of directors require, a written, detailed account of his transactions as treasurer and of the financial condition of the corporation, including a statement of all its assets, liabilities and financial transactions; shall perform such other duties as the president or board of directors direct and such other duties as usually pertain to the office of treasurer.

Most HCs consider all the chapter's graduates to be members of the HC. However, graduate brothers from other chapters who live in the area also have the opportunity to be members.
