35th Fiji Academy - St. Louis, MO - January 8-10, 2010


 

All Chapters and Colonies are billed for THREE delegates to attend the Fiji Academy.

Chapter Presidents, Chapter Treasurers, and Recruitment Chairman SHOULD attend the Fiji Academy. The Academy is comprised of special training for these positions.

All other brothers are encouraged to attend Fiji Academy, we will also have educational tracks for Recording Secretaries, Corresponding Secretaries, and Historians. A new addition this year is a Pledge Education track for any interested undergraduate or graduate brothers. This track is facilitated by brothers from the Task Force for Pledge Education.

WHEN DO I NEED TO BE IN ST. LOUIS?

ARRIVAL: BEFORE 4 PM ON FRIDAY, January 8, 2010

DEPART: ANYTIME ON SUNDAY, January 10, 2010

Each chapter also receives one reimbursement check at a rate of $.12 per mile for the round trip mileage from your chapter to St. Louis, Missouri. If you would like your chapter's check advanced to you, contact Donna Young a
t dyoung@phigam.org. To receive an advance, your account must be current and your delegates registered. If you receive an advance and do not attend, the chapter will be assessed a 20% surcharge. 
 

EARLY ARRIVAL PROGRAMMING AVAILABLE

Brothers arriving in St. Louis before 2:30 pm on Friday may take advantage of one of THREE early arrival programs.

#1. Careers and Networking 101: What sort of things do I need to know to land a job? What's really effective on my resume and when interviewing? How can my Fraternity experience help me in the job market? And what's the big deal with networking anyway? These questions and more will be answered in this interactive session. Brothers will get tips to give them a competitive advantage in today's job market.

#2. Personal Financial Management You Can Use: A financial expert will walk you through the basics of personal finances. Topics will include budgeting and tax basics, the ABC's of banking and basic investing and savings strategies. Come with questions and be ready to walk away with tools you can use!

#3. Scholarship Best Practices Round table: Educational Director Bill Bracewell (Georgia Faculty) will lead an interactive discussion on developing an academic plan for your chapter and sharing best practices from Jordan and Owen Cup winning chapters.

HOW DO I GET TO ST. LOUIS?

FLYING:

Litwack Travel is the official travel company of Phi Gamma Delta. Call them at 1-800-777-6800; tell them you are with Phi Gamma Delta and are attending the Academy in St. Louis. They will locate the lowest possible fare for you. You are responsible for paying for your ticket and applicable fees.

Upon your arrival in St. Louis, locate the Metrolink Station in the airport (Phone: 314-231-2345) and purchase a ticket ($3.50) to travel to Union Station and the Marriott Union Station. The Marriott Union Station is a short walk from the train drop off point. You may take a taxi from the airport; however, it will cost you approximately $45.

DRIVING:

You will be staying at the Marriott St. Louis Union Station, One Union Station, St. Louis, MO 63103, Phone: 314- 231-1234, Fax: 314-923-3970.

DIRECTIONS:

To the Hotel from Lambert Airport:(approx. 20 - 30 minutes)
Take 70 East. Exit Memorial Drive East. Turn right at the 3rd light (Market Street). Stay on Market Street until 18th Street. The Marriott is on the left.

Or

Take 70 East to 170 South to 40 East. Exit at 20th at Chestnut. Turn right at the light (20th Street). Turn left at the next light (Market Street). The Marriott is on the right.

To Lambert Airport from the Hotel: (approx. 20 - 30 minutes)
Take Market Street East toward the river (Downtown). Turn left on 4th street. Right on Chestnut. Left on Memorial to 7-0 West to Airport.

Or

Take Market Street West (away from downtown). Turn left on Jefferson. 40 West to 170 North. Exit Airport (on left).

To Hotel via 70 East: same as directions A.

To Hotel via 40/64 East: same as directions B.

To Hotel via 44 East: Exit Jefferson. Turn left at the light. Turn right at Market Street, five blocks on right hand side.

To Hotel via 55 North: Exit Memorial Drive. Turn left on Market Street (two blocks). Follow Market Street to 18th Street. The Marriott is on the left.

To Hotel via 55 South, 64 West, 40 West or 70 West: Stay in the left hand lane under I-64 signs (while on bridge). Once across the bridge, follow I-64 West for one mile. Exit Market at 21st Street. Turn right at the light (Market). The Marriott is three blocks on the right.

REGISTRATION FEE

Each chapter is invoiced $375 x 3 men for a total of $1,125. Additional delegates above the first 3 are encouraged to attend and will be invoiced after the event.

The $375 fee includes:

· All hotel room and taxes for Friday and Saturday at the Marriott St. Louis Union Station. We will make your room reservation. If you need a room for Thursday evening, LET IHQ KNOW. You will be responsible for paying for extra room nights.

· All meals beginning with dinner Friday evening and concluding with dinner Saturday.

· An executive level gift.  

WHAT TO BRING

· Your badge.
· A coat and tie to wear at the Saturday Pig Dinner. Business casual wear (collared shirts and slacks or khaki pants) for all other times.
· Camera.
· Some spending money.
· Chapter t-shirts to exchange.
· Creative chapter programs.
· Recruitment materials.
· Questions about the Fraternity.
· Any forms or fees that are due.
· Updated copy of your chapter roster.
· Willingness to learn and participate.
